The purpose of the research was to analyze the preventive internment of adolescent offenders and the principle of the last resort of criminal law. The method in the research was based on the qualitative approach, managing the collection and analysis of a documentary-bibliographic typology which allowed to organize an analysis of the object of study with the intention. The selection process followed an organized structure, starting with the review of titles, abstracts and keywords used in the search. The congruence of the articles was verified. It was also based on the analytical and synthetic methods. It is concluded that, at present, the preventive internment of adolescent offenders and the ultima ratio principle of criminal law are approached by seeking proportionate, necessary measures focused on juvenile development, avoiding the automatic application of custodial sentences and promoting more effective and less intrusive alternatives.
