The objective of the research was to examine whether the ethical consumption of agroecological products in Ecuador constitutes a normative utopia or a debt of the State. From a qualitative approach, with socio-legal and normative analysis methods, the constitutional and legal framework related to sustainable production and consumption was studied. Documentary review and analysis of Constitutional Court judgments were used as techniques. The results showed a significant gap between the constitutional mandate and social practice, derived from the lack of state intervention and the lack of economic incentives. It is concluded that ethical consumption should not be considered an individual choice, but a collective responsibility based on the state's duty to guarantee quality food at fair prices. The need to strengthen subsidy policies, public procurement and short marketing circuits is raised, orienting agroecology towards a model of food justice.
