Objective:
To identify competencies in health science students through the elaboration of degree theses.
Method:
A systematic review was carried out on a population of 30 scientific articles published in PubMed.
Results:
Six competencies were identified: i) critical thinking, ii) communication skills, iii) research skills, iv) stress management, v) evidence-based practice, vi) professional development.
Conclusion:
The inclusion of the thesis as an integral part of educational programs is therefore essential for the development of competent and well-prepared health professionals. Writing a thesis in the health sciences is a comprehensive educational process that develops six critical competencies necessary for professional practice.
