A systematic review. Salud y Vida [online]. 2025, vol.9, n.18, pp.43-58. Epub 05-Oct-2025. ISSN 2610-8038. https://doi.org/10.35381/s.v.v9i18.4587.
Introduction:
Nosocomial infections and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) pose a critical threat in intensive care units (ICUs). The objective is to analyze control strategies led by ICU nursing staff to mitigate the impact of antimicrobial resistance. Method: This systematic review analyzed 50 studies published between 2020 and 2024.
Results:
Among the most effective interventions were hand hygiene, proper management of invasive devices, active surveillance, and ongoing training. These strategies, applied in an integrated manner, reduced infection rates by up to 42% and contributed to a decrease in hospital mortality. Challenges remain, such as the lack of standardized protocols, scarce resources, and limited nurse participation in decision-making.
Conclusion:
Strengthening the role of nursing is key to improving clinical outcomes and containing AMR in critical settings such as ICUs.
