Objective:
To investigate the use of laser in maxillary expansion, addressing its benefits and clinical considerations.
Method:
A literature review was conducted through a search of various electronic databases, including PubMed, Lilacs, ProQuest, and Pesquisa. The keywords used were: laser, laser therapy, low-intensity light therapy or laser phototherapy, maxillary expansion, bone remodeling, and orthodontics. The search was limited to articles published between 2015 and 2025 in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Results and conclusions:
A total of 833 articles were identified. After a thorough analysis, those that did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded, leaving a total of 41 articles for the review. In conclusion, laser has proven to be a promising tool in maxillary expansion, offering potential benefits such as improved bone response and faster recovery.
