Photobiomodulation (PBM), or low-intensity laser therapy, has emerged as an option for improving orthodontic traction results. This treatment influences bone remodelling regulates the inflammatory response and accelerates tooth movement.

Objective:

To analyse the effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) on impacted canine traction, evaluating its influence on the biological mechanisms involved in the bone remodelling process.

Method:

A literature review was conducted using the electronic databases PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane and LILACS. The keywords used were: photobiomodulation, low-intensity laser, retained canine, traction.

Results:

Photobiomodulation has shown benefits in controlling orthodontic pain and has a positive effect on tooth movement.

Conclusion:

Photobiomodulation is a tool in the treatment of impacted canines, offering benefits such as accelerated tooth movement and reduced pain and inflammation.
