Introduction:
Biosafety supplies are essential for protecting healthcare personnel during emergencies. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted their importance in the self-care of nursing staff in intensive care units.
Objective:
To analyse the relationship between biosafety supplies and the self-care of nursing staff in the ICU of the Alfredo Noboa Montenegro Hospital.
Method:
Descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative study. Nineteen nursing professionals (15 registered nurses and 4 nursing assistants) participated in a structured questionnaire.
Results:
53.3% considered biosafety supplies to be inadequate, 84.2% gave a negative assessment of personal protective equipment, and 89.5% pointed out that the quantity of supplies was insufficient. However, 78.9% recognised the importance of self-care.
Conclusion:
The limited availability of supplies negatively affects self-care practices, compromising occupational health and the quality of intensive care.
