Objective:
To determine the risk factors associated with nursing care for the prevention of pressure ulcers in hospitalised patients.
Method:
Descriptive literature review with exegetical analysis of scientific articles published between 2018 and 2022 in specialist health and nursing journals.
Results:
The main risk factors identified include intrinsic factors (advanced age, immobility, nutritional disorders, incontinence) and extrinsic factors (deficiencies in care protocols, lack of staff training, inadequate use of special surfaces). Immobility was identified as the main predisposing factor. The Norton and Braden scales showed limited usefulness in predicting risk.
Conclusion:
Ninety-five per cent of PU are preventable through standardised nursing care protocols that include systematic risk assessment, early mobilisation, and specific skin care.
