Introduction:
Endotracheal intubation is one of the most frequent procedures in critical patients, involving various complications.
Objective:
To interpret nursing care for the prevention of complications in endotracheal intubation in critical patients.
Method:
Documentary review with content analysis through search strategy according to PRISMA guidelines.
Results:
14 studies were included (2017-2022): six controlled clinical trials, two observational studies and six bibliographic reviews. References were organized into educational/informative categories and nursing-led interventions. The use of validated assessment tools was analyzed and emphasis was placed on nursing intervention protocols focused on health team support, early detection of complications and timely procedures.
Conclusions:
Critical patient care management by nursing staff is elementary in recovery, reduction of hospitalization days and mortality, recognizing the direct impact of specialized care quality.
