Introduction:

The COVID-19 pandemic destabilised global health systems, significantly impacting the mental health of healthcare professionals, especially those working in intensive care units. Burnout syndrome is a response to chronic work-related stress characterised by emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and reduced personal fulfilment.

Objective:

To estimate the prevalence of burnout syndrome among nursing staff in the intensive care unit at Nova Clínica del Valle, Quito, Ecuador.

Method:

Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted on 17 intensive care nursing professionals. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaire was used to assess the three dimensions of the syndrome: emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and personal fulfilment. Sociodemographic variables and their association with the dimensions of burnout were analysed.

Results:

76.5% of the participants were women, with an average age of 37 years.

Palabras clave : Professional burnout; nursing; emotional stress; intensive care; job satisfaction..
