CHICAIZA-GUAMAN, Diana Elizabeth; ALBORNOZ-ZAMORA, Elsa Josefina y DONOSO-NORONA, Riber Fabián. Klebsiella Pneumoniae associated with mechanical ventilation: systematic review according to PRISMA. Salud y Vida [online]. 2025, vol.9, n.esp1, pp.325-336. Epub 30-Oct-2025. ISSN 2610-8038. https://doi.org/10.35381/s.v.v9i1.4672.
Objectives:
To describe through a systematic review according to PRISMA the interrelationship of Klebsiella Pneumoniae associated with Mechanical Ventilation.
Method:
Systematic review of literature in Google Scholar, SciELO and Redalyc databases. Observational studies, systematic reviews, and case reports published between 2012-2022 in Spanish were included. The search strategy used terms: "Mechanical ventilation", "Klebsiella Pneumoniae", "pneumonia" with Boolean operator AND. PRISMA methodology was applied for evaluation.
Results:
Ten studies were analyzed from an initial population of 50 articles. Klebsiella pneumoniae represents the etiological agent of 20-30% of nosocomial pneumonias, being among the first three pathogens isolated in intrahospital bacteremias. Reported incidence varied between 23-90% according to the study, with higher prevalence in males. The most significant risk factors include: prolonged intubation time (>8 days), previous use of antibiotics, invasive devices and host characteristics.
Palabras clave : Klebsiella Pneumoniae; mechanical ventilation; nosocomial pneumonia; nursing..
