Objectives:
To interpret factors related to respiratory infections associated with nursing care in pediatric intensive care units through systematic review.
Method:
Exploratory study with hermeneutic approach, using inclusion and exclusion categorization matrix. Articles published 2013-2022 were reviewed in specialized databases, following PRISMA 2020 methodology. Ten articles were selected from 120 initial records.
Results:
Respiratory infections present 53.5% incidence in pediatric ICUs. Main etiological agents identified were Acinetobacter baumannii (28%) and Staphylococcus aureus (27.2%). Onset occurs primarily in the first week of hospitalization (72.8%). Risk factors include prolonged mechanical ventilation, intubation, poor nutritional status and presence of comorbidities.
Conclusions:
No studies demonstrating direct association between respiratory infections and nursing care specifically were evidenced, these infections being multifactorial.
