Resumen

GARCIA-VERA, Bryan Elvis; RODRIGUEZ-PLASENCIA, Adisnay  y  ROMERO-FERNANDEZ, Ariel José. Pressure ulcers in elderly adults admitted to intensive care units. Salud y Vida [online]. 2025, vol.9, n.esp1, pp.458-467.  Epub 30-Oct-2025. ISSN 2610-8038.  https://doi.org/10.35381/s.v.v9i1.4688.

Objective:

To identify nursing care for the prevention of pressure ulcers in older adults hospitalized in the intensive care area.

Methods:

Qualitative and documentary research through bibliographic review of scientific literature published between 2018-2022, including books, journals, scientific articles and official health websites.

Results:

Key interventions were identified such as skin surveillance, pressure management, position changes, bedridden patient care and nutritional management. Main nursing diagnoses include risk of injury, impaired skin integrity and risk of pressure ulcer.

Conclusions:

Preventive nursing care is fundamental to maintain tissue integrity, reduce hospital mortality and improve quality of life. Systematic implementation of the nursing care process significantly decreases the incidence of pressure ulcers in critically ill older adults.
