Objective:
To identify factors contributing to dehumanization in intensive care units through systematic review of scientific literature.
Methods:
Systematic review guided by PRISMA in PubMed, ScienceDirect and Scopus databases, including articles published between 2016-2022. Terms such as "humanization", "dehumanization" and "intensive care unit" were used.
Results:
Five main factors were identified: work overload with limited time for human contact, technological primacy over personalized care, continuous suffering environment, loss of professional values and intensive use of ICT without humanizing strategies.
Conclusions:
Dehumanization in ICU is a multifactorial systemic phenomenon requiring organizational, educational and psychosocial support interventions to re-humanize clinical practice and improve care quality.
