Resumen

Objectives:

To interpret the microbiological profile and frequency of surgical wound infections in the intensive care unit.

Method:

Integrative review of studies through data collection of original research in electronic databases SciELO, LILACS, SCOPUS, Latindex and BIREME. Parameters were defined: population, study interest, context and outcome. Inclusion criteria: complete articles 2012-2022, Spanish, English and Portuguese languages.

Results:

10 studies were identified including prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative and retrospective investigations of abdominal, cardiac, peritonitis, cervical, intracranial, rectal and hepatobiliary surgery. 100% presented infection with predominance of Escherichia coli, Enterobacter, Staphylococci, Acinetobacter baumannii and Enterobacter sp.

Conclusions:

The incidence of surgical site infections was high, with abdominal, cardiac and peritonitis surgery being the sites with highest frequency of infection, with Escherichia coli predominating as the most prevalent microorganism.
