Objective:

Identify and evaluate concrete community nursing strategies to prevent gastrointestinal diseases in rural areas of Ecuador and translate findings into practical guidance for local managers and health professionals.

Method:

Qualitative systematic review of literature 2015-2025 in PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar and institutional repositories; studies with empirical evidence on rural interventions were included, as well as relevant theses and operational reports.

Result:

Twenty-one studies indicated that health education, home visits and intersectoral campaigns reduce risk factors, improve hygiene practices and increase vaccination coverage; effects were stronger when interventions were continuous and culturally adapted.

Conclusions:

Community nursing acts as a cornerstone for preventing gastrointestinal diseases in rural areas; contextualized interventions improve health indicators, but logistical constraints and lack of academic support limit their impact.
