Objective:
To comprehensively analyze scientific evidence on the frequency and type of postoperative complications in minor oral surgery and their association with the patient's clinical and systemic conditions, habits, procedural variables, and surgeon experience.
Method:
The literature review was conducted using a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical approach. The search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, and Google Scholar, considering studies published between 2014 and 2024.
Results:
The results show that the most common complications were postoperative pain, edema, and immediate bleeding, followed by local infection and alveolitis. Patients with type II diabetes and those over 75 years of age had a higher burden of complications.
Conclusions:
It was concluded that complications are mainly related to the patient's clinical factors and that early identification of these factors allows for optimization of surgical planning and postoperative follow-up.
