Objective:

To analyze prenatal care and severe maternal morbidity at a hospital in Cajamarca, Peru.

Method:

This study employed a quantitative approach, using a descriptive design and a detailed analysis of medical records and peer-reviewed articles. The study population consisted of 156 patients, selected through simple random sampling, out of a total of 521 women treated at the Cajamarca Regional Teaching Hospital. Structured observation supported by a data collection form was used for data collection.

Results:

The analyzed sociodemographic profile reveals that nearly half of the patients (47.5%) have no formal education or only completed primary school.

Conclusion:

The figures reveal that the Hospital functions as a highly complex emergency center, compensating for the shortcomings of the peripheral system. Reducing extreme maternal morbidity in the region depends on an immediate restructuring of early diagnosis.
