Abstract
NAVARRETE COCHANCELA, Janeth Alexandra et al. Perception of Artificial Intelligence as a Threat or an Ally in University Students' Professional Training. Prohominum [online]. 2025, vol.7, n.2, pp.123-136. Epub July 03, 2025. ISSN 2665-0169. https://doi.org/10.47606/acven/ph037.
This study aims to analyze university students' perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) in their professional education. The research adopted a quantitative, non-experimental, and cross-sectional approach, using a structured survey with Likert-type scales to measure participants' opinions. The instrument used was a questionnaire that addressed three dimensions: knowledge and use of AI, perception of AI as an ally or threat, and attitude towards AI. The sample consisted of 450 students from public and private universities in Ecuador, selected through stratified random sampling. The findings show that 40% of students perceive AI as facilitating and improving their learning and professional development, while 30% fear that AI might replace essential skills in their professional fields. Regarding the use of AI-based tools, 60% of participants have used such tools in their learning process, while 40% express their willingness to learn more about AI. Additionally, 40% are concerned about the negative impact of AI on students' critical thinking and creativity. In conclusion, the results suggest that, although most students recognize the benefits of AI, there are also concerns about its impact on the development of human skills. It is crucial for universities to integrate AI education to better prepare students for future technological challenges.
