BENAVIDES GALVEZ, Jhonny Biler et al. Financial Literacy Among Accounting Students at a Public University in Peru. Revista Docentes 2.0 [online]. 2026, vol.19, n.1, pp.281-287. Epub 29-Mayo-2026. ISSN 2665-0266. https://doi.org/10.37843/rted.v19i1.755.
Financial literacy is fundamental for accounting students; it forms the basis for developing skills geared toward the responsible management of economic and financial resources. Strengthening this literacy ensures sound decision-making and ethical and competitive professional performance in the workplace. This research aimed to determine the level of financial literacy among accounting students at a public university in Peru. A methodology based on the positivist paradigm was used, with a quantitative approach, a non-experimental design, and a descriptive, cross-sectional study. The study was conducted during the 2024-II academic period. The population consisted of 351 students from first to tenth semesters. The sample comprised 184 students. Proportional stratified sampling was used, with semesters as the strata. The unit of analysis was each surveyed student. Data collection was carried out using a survey and a questionnaire as techniques and instruments, respectively. The results revealed significant deficiencies in students' financial knowledge, skills, and attitudes, reflecting a gap between the expected professional profile and the training received. It is concluded that students' financial literacy is low, limiting their ability to make sound decisions. Therefore, pedagogical and curricular strategies must be rethought by incorporating active methodologies and practical content that strengthen the comprehensive development of financial competencies.
