The purpose of this documentary article was to make a theoretical approach based on the experiences of teachers and students with the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Distance Higher Education (DE). The research methodology was literature review, exploratory and explanatory, supported by information from indexed journals of Redalyc and Scielo on studies conducted between the years 2017- 2023. As a result, it is highlighted how ICTs contribute to the development of the distance education process within Higher Education (HE). Therefore, it was concluded that the incidence of these tools in professional training has been significant in higher education and remote work, as it has contributed to the development of important professional competencies for the development in complex educational contexts.
