The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the program “Use of tablets to develop competencies in the area of communication” in the level of achievement of these competencies. An applied research with a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental design was used. The sample consisted of 70 students in the experimental group and 58 in the control group, who responded to three evaluation instruments for each competency in the area of communication; that is, the competency “communicates orally in their mother tongue”; the competency “reads different types of texts in their mother tongue”; and the competency “writes different types of texts in their mother tongue”. The results allowed verifying the effectiveness of the program; therefore, it was concluded that the applied program significantly strengthened the oral, written and reading dimensions of the experimental group.
