The general objective of the research was to analyze environmental education for the improvement of environmental awareness in elementary school students. The study followed a quantitative approach, considering the specific context and the characteristics of the phenomenon. It was also developed according to a documentary research design. It proceeded to the review of scientific journals, among others. Likewise, for the work developed, the population consisted of 260 elementary school students and the selected sampling was non-probabilistic and by convenience, reaching 26 third grade students, to whom a questionnaire was applied. It is concluded that the implementation of environmental awareness programs in regular basic education is important and should be supported by a policy from the Ministry of Education, which allows the director to permanently manage the implementation, execution and valuation of this type of programs.
