The objective of the study was to determine to what extent playful activities develop the learning of arithmetic in students in the fourth cycle of primary education. The study was applied, with a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 80 students (50 in the experimental group and 30 in the control group) of the fourth cycle of primary education. The test was applied as an instrument. As a result, the learning of arithmetic in the experimental group prior to the development of the recreational activities was in process in 54%, after the recreational activities were carried out, 88% of the students reached an achieved level in the learning of arithmetic. On the other hand, in the control group there were no significant variations. In conclusion, the recreational activities significantly developed the learning of arithmetic in students of the fourth cycle of primary education.
