The research explores the effectiveness of the communicative paradigm in optimizing the phonetic competence of university students. The objective was to determine how the communicative approach improves the pronunciation of the English language in university students in Trujillo. A quasi-experimental design was used with an experimental group and a control group. Both groups were evaluated before and after the intervention to measure their pronunciation skills at segmental and suprasegmental levels. For the statistical analysis, the Wilcoxon rank test and normality analysis were used. The results showed a significant increase in the phonetic accuracy of the experimental group compared to the control group, evidencing a notable decrease in pronunciation errors at the segmental and suprasegmental levels. In addition, the statistical analysis of the pronunciation scores obtained after the intervention showed a more homogeneous distribution.
