The overall objective of the research was to analyze the development of social-emotional skills in adolescents. This study was documentary in nature and exploratory-descriptive in scope. The method was implemented based on the premises of a structured literature review, considering appropriate academic and technical sources, both nationally and internationally. Exploratory planning was carried out. The search for sources was implemented in indexed scientific databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, Scielo, and Latindex 2.0. In addition, it was supported by a systematic review of peer-reviewed works, following the guidelines of the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) statement. It is concluded that social-emotional competencies are not an addition to the school curriculum, but rather the foundation that supports the mental health and academic success of adolescents.
