Human beings in the process of their development expanded their knowledge through reading, which is why this represents a tool for their progress, opens paths to knowledge of the surrounding world, and allows them to improve vocabulary, perfect spelling, making reflective, empathetic, critical and creative people. The objective of the study was to analyze the reading habit in primary education students. It is documentary research that starts from the review of theories, concepts and categories related to reading habits, is projected from a qualitative level, and is supported by the systematic review of documents from specialized databases, as well as: Scopus, Scielo, Dialnet, Redalyc, highlighting authors such as Jiménez et al (2020), Clavel (2020), Elche et al (2019), Jaramillo et al (2019) among others. The results show that the habit of reading is fundamental, it enriches the human being, providing tools for analysis, understanding and projection of beneficial decisions on a personal, professional and social level, that is, reading contributes to the development of appropriate mental structures to cope. to everyday situations. It is concluded that the reading habit is a strategy that must be guided and developed from the school stage, starting with the family, the teacher and the school, to generate a pleasant reading habit in students; in order to achieve an educated society and for individuals to face the vicissitudes with solvency and knowledge in a changing world. Reading helps you become smarter and more successful. This article is the result of the doctoral research project developed at the Cesar Vallejo University inserted in the research line Education and educational quality and in the line of university social responsibility: Support for the reduction of gaps and deficiencies in education at all levels.
