ALVAREZ VILLOTA, Daniela Myrlley  e  VALLEJO IZQUIERDO, Luis Alberto. SPORTS DENTISTRY: DENTOARTICULAR CORRECTIVE TREATMENT IN PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS TO IMPROVE THEIR ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE. Aula Virtual [online]. 2024, vol.5, n.12, e412.  Epub 27-Mar-2025. ISSN 2665-0398.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14834781.

Dental occlusion significantly influences body posture, being especially relevant in high-performance athletes, where an adequate occlusion contributes to a better postural balance and, consequently, to an increase in sports performance. The objective was to explain and describe the dentoarticular change in a clinical case of a Class II patient who presented a forward position of the head and neck, which could affect her sports performance. Materials and methods for correct these imbalances and optimize the occlusion, a first phase of treatment with transparent aligners was carried out, with the aim of decompensating the occlusion and promoting a more stable posture. As a results, in cases of Class II postural imbalance, an increase in the activity of the prevertebral muscles is observed, accompanied by a verticalization of the cervical spine, which increases the tension in the infra and suprahyoid muscles. This tension generates a chain reaction of muscles and joints due to the anatomical connection between the trigeminal nerve and the cervical spine, which extends to the lumbar spine, even affecting plantar sensitivity. Within the conclusions, dentoarticular treatment with orthodontics modifies and improves the balance established in the masticatory muscles, which helps to maintain postural balance and maximize sports performance.
