With the objective of developing a literature review on mathematical thinking of primary education students in Latin America in high impact indexed journals such as SciELO and Scopus databases, which can be in English or Spanish, publications on mathematical thinking in basic education of Latin American students in the period 2020 to 2024 were selected from SciELO and Scopus databases. The research was of qualitative approach, of documentary analysis according to the systematic review method proposed in the PRISMA statement. The instrument used was the data collection form. After conducting the search, a definitive sample of 9 articles was reached. 6 from the SciELO database and 3 from Scopus. Of them, correspond to articles original. It was concluded that publications on mathematical thinking in the education of elementary school students are scarce.
