Resumen

MATA CARNEVALI, Olga Thais. TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE: A CONTRIBUTION TO WEIGHT CONTROL IN THE OBESE ADULT WOMAN. Aula Virtual [online]. 2025, vol.6, n.13, e475.  Epub 24-Jul-2025. ISSN 2665-0398.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15823590.

Obesity, classified as a non-communicable disease (NCD), has ceased to be a condition within the realm of aesthetics and has become an epidemic affecting the global population. The effects of obesity manifest in cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, polycystic ovaries, and others. In response, diverse health disciplines contribute their expertise to address both overweight and obesity. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), obesity is viewed as a disorder originating in the Mutant Kingdom Earth, involving the Stomach and Spleen-Pancreas organs, which can be effectively treated through an integrated approach addressing physical, mental, and emotional aspects of the individual. Under this framework, this study adopted acupuncture as a TCM treatment method. Methodologically, the research employs a qualitative approach using the case study method to analyze the lived reality of a person with this health condition, focusing on the case of an obese adult woman undergoing treatment. The findings were deemed positive, supported by evidence of reduced body weight and improved lifestyle habits in the patient.

Palabras clave : Obesity; weight control; Traditional Chinese Medicine.
