The development of critical thinking (CT) in virtual environments (VE) represents a crucial challenge for contemporary education, given the increasing adoption of these teaching modalities. This systematic review article aims to examine the specific barriers educators face when implementing effective strategies to foster critical thinking, evaluate their impact on learning, and propose practical, evidence-based solutions. Through a thorough analysis of the available literature, barriers were identified such as limited digital competence among students, a lack of digital leadership among educators, and a reliance on technological tools that frequently hinders critical thinking. Methodologies such as problem-based learning and innovative pedagogical models have proven effective, but difficulties in their implementation are also evident. The research underscores the urgent need to train educators in digital competencies and active methodologies, as well as to restructure training and institutional support initiatives. In conclusion, the findings of this study not only contribute to the academic field but also offer a framework for improving educational practice in EV, highlighting the importance of overcoming the identified barriers to students' CT development.
