Hospital waste management is an essential component of healthcare because of the risks it poses to both human health and the environment. The general objective of this analysis is to analyze the challenges and opportunities of hospital solid waste management in Peru. The study, based on 50 relevant articles from 2020 to 2024, conducted a systematic review of the literature on hospital solid waste management in Latin America, which included databases such as Scopus, UCV, SciELO, Google Scholar and Dialnet and other websites. Of the studies carried out by various authors on hospital solid waste, one of the most acute problems is the inadequate management of this waste, which is crucial to minimize the risks of infections, environmental contamination and exposure to hazardous substances. In Peru, waste management faces significant challenges, such as lack of adequate infrastructure, insufficient training of health personnel, and irregular compliance with regulations, exacerbated by financial constraints. However, there are also opportunities such as the adoption of advanced technologies, the strengthening of regulations, continuous training and international cooperation, the promotion of recycling programs and community participation.
