Abstract

VALDERRAMA REYES, Giuliana Geraldine. GOVERNANCE FOR A CULTURE OF SAFETY IN THE LATIN AMERICAN HEALTH SECTOR: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN PUBLIC MANAGEMENT, A LITERATURE REVIEW. Aula Virtual [online]. 2026, vol.7, n.14, e718.  Epub June 04, 2026. ISSN 2665-0398.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20580421.

The patient safety culture (CSP) faces various problems in many health systems, one of the main ones is the lack of reporting of medical errors, due to the fear of reprisals, there is also a lack of institutional support, since safety policies do not have the necessary resources or clear organizational support. The objective was to analyze how Governance contributes to the Safety Culture in the Latin American Health Sector: Challenges and Opportunities in Public Management 2020 - 2024. This study was designed as a descriptive and exploratory literature review, selecting relevant original scientific articles that are related to the topic, having a sample of 50 articles. As a result, we found that the main problems were the granting of personnel, managerial support to the S.P., shift changes and the transition between services. It can be concluded that each of these aspects requires specific solutions ranging from better human resource planning, strengthening safety leadership, to the implementation of standardized protocols for communication between shifts and proper management of transitions between services. It is essential to delve into the causes in a comprehensive and orderly manner to ensure a safer and more reliable environment.
