The general objective of the research was to analyze public policies for sustainable development in the sustainable management of the oil canon, Loreto, Peru. It adopted a quantitative approach with a descriptive non-experimental design. This approach was supported by documentary and bibliographic analysis to contextualize the study. The population consisted of 365 people involved in the management of the oil canon in the region. From this, a probability sample of 317 was selected. Two main techniques were used for data collection: the survey, to obtain direct information from the participants, and documentary analysis, to complement and validate the findings. In conclusion, for the investment of the canon to generate real and lasting development, it is necessary to strengthen project implementation capacity and ensure effective accountability, thus transforming the simple distribution of funds into an engine for sustainable change.
