Abstract
GONZALEZ FERNANDEZ, Roxana Xiomara. Socioeconomic factors influencing access to higher education in the rural area of the Salitre canton (Guayas, Ecuador). Revista InveCom [online]. 2024, vol.4, n.2, e040244. Epub June 26, 2024. ISSN 2739-0063. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10637540.
This study aimed to analyze and understand the socioeconomic factors that influence access to higher education in the rural area of the Salitre canton, Guayas, Ecuador. Adopting a quantitative, descriptive and correlational design, the research is based on a sample of 384 young people aged 18 to 29. A survey of ten closed questions was used, previously validated in a pilot test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient was applied. The results reflect the troubling disparity in educational opportunities due to economic and geographic factors. Family income and lack of economic resources emerge as obstacles, while geographical accessibility and the perception of insufficient scholarships influence educational options. It highlights the need for policies that address these constraints and promote equal access to higher education in rural areas.
