Abstract

MOREIRA ALCIVAR, Elvin Fray  and  INDACOCHEA MENDOZA, Luis René. Family and Academic Performance in sixth and seventh graders. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.1, e501015.  Epub Sep 30, 2024. ISSN 2739-0063.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10929103.

The objective of the study was to determine the influence of family dynamics on the academic performance of sixth- and seventh-year students of EGB of the "Seeds of Life" educational unit. The focus of the research is quantitative, documentary and explanatory, since family dynamics and academic performance were investigated, focusing on the relevant details, to analyze different specific aspects, thus allowing to know the problem in a deep way. The population that was counted for the research was made up of 45 students of sixth and seventh year of basic general education parallel to the Educational Unit "Semillas de Vida" of the Latacunga canton of the province of Cotopaxi, due to the fact that the population was small, we worked with the whole group and the sample was not calculated. According to the results obtained in this research project, it was possible to evidence a high number of students who manifest the absence of communication, functional and affectivity within the family nucleus; In terms of cohesion and permeability, there is evidence of a high percentage of students who report a dysfunctional bond of union between family members; The academic performance of the majority of students is average, since there is no evidence of a study plan or program that governs the pace of student learning; Family dynamics and academic performance are highly correlated.
