Abstract
BERROCAL ARESTEGUI, Frank Isaac and HURTADO AMBROCIO, Olga. Influence of emotional intelligence on academic stress in psychology students from Ayacucho. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.1, e501038. Epub Dec 05, 2024. ISSN 2739-0063. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.11176891.
The present research sought to determine the extent to which emotional intelligence influences academic stress in psychology student practitioners in the city of Huamanga, Ayacucho. To this end, this study was framed in a quantitative, basic approach, with an explanatory scope and a non-experimental cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 86 students from the 9th and 10th cycles of the Universidad Católica de Trujillo Benedicto XVI, which was selected through the use of the non-probabilistic convenience sampling technique, based on a population of 105 students who were carrying out their pre-professional internships in the city of Ayacucho. The survey technique was used for data collection, applying two psychological tests as measurement instruments: the Emotional States Meta-cognition Scale (TMMS-24) by Salovey et al. (1995), reduced by Fernández-Berrocal et al. (2004), and the Systemic Cognitivist Inventory for the Study of Academic Stress (SISCO SV-21) by Barraza-Macías (2018). The results demonstrated a significant and inverse influence of emotional intelligence on participants' academic stress. In addition, it was observed that 60.5% of such showed a high level of emotional intelligence, while 65.1% experienced a moderate level of academic stress.
