Abstract

GARCES MENESES, Julián Alejandro. Learning cities: synergy to improve the quality of education at the local level. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.1, e501047.  Epub Dec 05, 2024. ISSN 2739-0063.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.11264784.

Since 2013, there has been a global discussion about Learning Cities, created by UNESCO in response to a global deficiency in social, cultural, and citizen participation aspects. It seeks to provide education as a central solution and a country's development axis. Its main premise is to ensure lifelong learning for citizens. The article presents a literature review on the growth of different types of cities, classified as modern, smart, university, green, and learning cities. The latter is seen as a synergy between the government, citizens, and UNESCO to improve the quality of life through a fundamental pillar: education. The main objective is to review the most common databases to academically explore the extent to which the topic of learning cities has been investigated in Colombia. Conclusion: Currently, Colombia has nine cities that belong to this new city model, but there are no academic works related to this object of study.

Keywords : participation; city; culture; education; learning.
