Abstract

The objective of this scientific study was to analyze the relationship between ergonomics and occupational injuries in employees of a wholesale supermarket called DEVIES CORP. The methodology implemented was quantitative, descriptive, correlational in design. The chosen population was 55 employees from the operational area; the instrument used was the questionnaire of ergonomic risk factors and damages of the Trade Union Institute of Work, Environment and Health (ISTAS-CCOO) (2014) whose factors were: presence of discomfort or pain, postures by actions, work time by postures, time of performance, manual manipulation, and level of demand. Based on the results of the research, a clear difference in weight manipulation between men and women is observed. Workers who work more than 4 hours a day experience significantly higher levels of physical demand compared to those who work less than 4 hours a day. There is a significant positive relationship between the time spent at work and the perception of physical demand. It was concluded that the correlation between working time and physical demand is 0.790. This figure indicates a strong positive correlation between these two factors; the calculated Pearson correlation is 0.661, indicating a moderately positive association between the perception of physical demand at work and the frequency of bodily discomfort
