Abstract

MUNOZ MUNOZ, Andrés Marcelo; ROJAS TORRES, Vanessa Estefania  and  VEGA GRANDA, Andrea del Cisne. Job opportunities in Ecuador: determinants and employment trends 2013-2022. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.2, e502001.  Epub Feb 15, 2025. ISSN 2739-0063.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.12735340.

The dynamics of the Ecuadorian labor market and the factors that influence employment opportunities are analyzed. The objective is to understand the causes of employment and unemployment in the country during the period 2013-202. Using a mixed approach that combines quantitative data from sources such as ECLAC and qualitative analysis of public policies, determinants such as economic growth, investment in education, demographic structure, labor informality, government policies, and technological innovation are identified. The results highlight the correlation between economic growth and the increase in the employment rate, the importance of education to improve employability, and the persistence of challenges such as informality and gender disparities. Employment and unemployment trends reflect significant fluctuations, including a boom in 2017 and a steep drop in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by a partial recovery in 2021-2022. The study concludes that it is crucial to address these factors through inclusive policies to foster a more equitable and resilient labour market.

Keywords : job opportunities; determinants; employment trends.
