This study examines the academic literature on engagement, job satisfaction and flow in NGOs, identifying trends and areas for future research. Through a bibliometric analysis of 852 documents extracted from the Scopus database, covering the period from 2007 to 2024, an annual growth of 16.92% in publications and an international collaboration of 27.82% was found. The terms "human," "psychology," and "motivation" turned out to be central to the literature. The findings underscore the importance of engagement and job satisfaction for volunteer retention and performance and indicate the need for more studies on flow, an emerging area. It is recommended to align personal and organizational values, foster transformational leadership, and improve recognition and feedback practices. The research provides a solid basis for the development of policies and practices that improve the volunteer experience and the effectiveness of NGOs, highlighting the relevance of psychological and motivational factors in the management of volunteerism.
