Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine to what extent the school language immersion method improves oral competence in English, in students of the first grade of the I.E. Nº 81017 "Santa Edelmira" of Trujillo (Peru). The approach assumed in this research is quantitative and is applied, with a quasi-experimental design. The sample was made up of 66 first-grade students. The technique used was observation and the instrument used was the rating scale. The "Mann-Whitney U" test was used for data analysis. It is concluded that the school language immersion method significantly improves oral competence in English, in 1st grade students of I.E N° 81017 "Santa Edelmira" of Trujillo, as evidenced by the Mann-Whitney U statistical test whose p value (0.000) was lower than the alpha value (0.05).
