Human evolution has gone through different stages over the millennia. What were initially nomadic communities, organized under a system of primitive communism, gave way to complex social structures and great civilizations with social systems adapted to the realities configured with the passage of time. In all these communities and cultures, as well as today, there are people who today are known as elders or senior citizens. Considered wise and counselors, they have also faced discrimination and exclusion. It is in this context that the present work is developed, whose main objective is to investigate active aging, social integration and self-care. The study focuses on a case study conducted in the province of Tungurahua, Patate canton, specifically in the gerontological center of the sector, where information is collected from older adults. A pretest and a posttest were applied to evaluate the impact of exercise routines and activities aimed at improving their quality of life. The results show a significant change in the levels of stress, anxiety and emotions of the participants, observing improvements after the routines. It is concluded that recreational, physical and integration activities favor the mood and health of the elderly.
