BELTRAN CUSHCAGUA, Ronald Sebastián e AVALOS LOPEZ, Mercy Gabriela. Loss of the native language in young amazonian university students from Pastaza: causes, impacts and revitalization strategies. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.3, e050385. Epub 19-Maio-2025. ISSN 2739-0063. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14549571.
This article addresses the loss of the native language among young university students in Pastaza, highlighting the cultural disconnection that this generates in a context of increasing globalization. The objective was to identify the causes of this loss, evaluate its impact on cultural identity, and propose revitalization strategies for the Amazonian Kichwa, Waorani, and Shuar languages, among others. The methodology used was a mixed approach, with surveys of 100 students and interviews with young students and community leaders of this province. The results reveal that the lack of use of the language at home, the discrimination to which speakers are exposed, migration to the cities and the influence of dominant languages are the main causes for the loss of the language among young people. It is concluded that for the revitalization of native languages, strategies focused on family use, intercultural education and community commitment should be implemented to strengthen cultural identity and the transmission of these languages, guaranteeing the very life of the peoples and nationalities.
