This research aims to examine environmental education as a fundamental strategy to promote the conservation of the natural environment, focusing on the training context of environmental engineering students. Its central purpose is to strengthen the training of these future professionals in areas of environmental education and sustainable development, thus promoting the creation of innovative responses to current environmental challenges. The research methodology is based on the PRISMA approach, defining rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria to select relevant studies. This review seeks to provide greater clarity to research in Latin America that analyzes the role of environmental education in environmental preservation, identifying predominant trends in the region. To do so, a systematic review of literature indexed in recognized databases such as Scopus, SciELO, Latindex, Redalyc and ProQuest was carried out, covering the period from 2019 to the present, and using keywords such as: "Environment", "Environmental engineering", "Sustainable development" and "Environmental competence". The studies examined are quantitative in approach and show limited participation in environmental management. This analysis has direct implications for the training of environmental engineers capable of leading sustainable projects and promoting citizen participation. The research highlighted the need to integrate environmental education into environmental engineering curricula, not only as a theoretical component, but as a practical element that encourages collaboration with the community and the construction of joint solutions. The findings highlighted that environmental education plays a crucial role in the training of future environmental engineers with a strong environmental awareness.

Keywords : environmental; sustainability and engineering.
