Abstract
ARIAS QUISPE, Sharon Stefani; MONROY-CORREA, Graciela Martina; HUAMAN CORDERO, Jimy Adolfo and VENTURA DAVILA, Joseph Omar. Reading strategies for primary school students. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.3, e050393. Epub May 25, 2025. ISSN 2739-0063. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14559857.
The level of reading comprehension in primary school students has declined as a result of the pandemic, mainly in developing countries in Latin America, where student learning has been set back two years. The objective of this research was to determine the effects of the “Reading for Pleasure” program on text comprehension in fourth grade elementary school students. The design is quasi-experimental, intersubject, pretest and posttest of intact, experimental (n = 17) and control (n = 18) groups. The ACL-4 Reading Comprehension Test and the Reading Motivation Profile questionnaire were administered. The results show a significant increase in reading proficiency, from the Beginning level to the Process level, but very slight from the Process level to the Achievement level. This shows the need to reevaluate the curricular plans and the Reading Plan programs, as well as to increase the use of expository and argumentative texts, and the use of digital tools and resources to develop students' imagination, critical and reflective thinking, and to increase the level of text comprehension.
