Abstract

FACUY DELGADO, Jussen Paul  and  DIAZ ESPINOZA, Maribel. The role of environmental intelligence in promoting sustainable development in higher basic education. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.3, e0503108.  Epub May 25, 2025. ISSN 2739-0063.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14635894.

The main objective of this study is to determine the role of environmental intelligence in the promotion of sustainable development in higher education. The methodology used was applied, with a quantitative approach and under a quasi-experimental design. The population was composed of 60 students of higher basic education, who were segmented into two groups (control and experimental) of 30 students each. A survey was applied to collect the data. The results of the pre-test showed that there was no concrete knowledge regarding sustainable development between the two groups. The intervention included an environmental intelligence program that was aimed at addressing electronic waste management from a digital approach. This proposal was applied exclusively to the experimental group through 12 scheduled sessions. The results of the post-test showed the effectiveness of the program, taking into account that the control group remained within a low level of response, while a large part of the experimental group achieved a high rating. Likewise, the inferential results obtained using the Mann Whitney U showed a U=64,500; Z=-5.708; Sig. ,000 < 0.05, which allowed us to accept and affirm that the development of an environmental intelligence program generates a positive influence on sustainable development in higher basic education.

Keywords : environmental intelligence; sustainable development; e-waste management.
