Abstract
SUAREZ REVOLLAR, Héver Alaín. EMDR treatment for a case of panic disorder stemming from a traumatic experience: results of a therapeutic intervention. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.3, e0503111. Epub May 25, 2025. ISSN 2739-0063. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14642132.
A case study of panic disorder of traumatic origin (PTSD) is presented, its treatment by means of the EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapeutic approach, illustrated with some edited fragments of the sessions carried out during the therapy. The EMDR therapy, throughout the 11 treatment sessions, achieved a significant reduction of symptoms, as evidenced in the post-test. However, although notable advances in the patient's emotional state were observed, the post-treatment reassessment revealed a mild reactivation of the symptomatology with attenuated intensity and duration, highlighting the need to continue reprocessing the remaining incidents, present triggers and future pattern to ensure better recovery. In conclusion, the standard EMDR protocol where they reprocessed four incidents from the past was shown to be an effective intervention in reducing symptoms associated with PTSD and panic attacks.
