VEGA VARGAS, Richard Artidoro. Embassy assault! Legal implications of International Law and Criminal Law: the case of Mexico in Ecuador. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.4, e504011.  Epub 12-Jun-2025. ISSN 2739-0063.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14680231.

Throughout history, diplomatic missions have been essential institutions for maintaining dialogue and stability among nations, guaranteeing a space of inviolability, even in situations of political tension. This article examines an event that marked a turning point in the application of these principles: the assault on the Mexican Embassy in Ecuador. The main objective of this study is to analyze the legal implications of this event in the field of international law and criminal law. The research is based on a qualitative methodology based on the documentary analysis of secondary sources, including official documents, academic articles and news. The main findings reveal that the assault violated fundamental principles of international law, such as the inviolability of diplomatic missions and the right to asylum. In addition, potential criminal offenses were identified, such as disproportionate use of force and arbitrary detention. The study concludes that this incident represents a serious setback in the respect for international law and human rights, undermining the stability of diplomatic relations. It therefore emphasizes the need for States to strengthen mechanisms to ensure compliance with international norms and to harmonize their domestic legislation with their global obligations.

Palabras clave : diplomatic inviolability; political asylum; use of force.
