The research presented in this article aimed to determine the validity and reliability of the Inventory of Emotional Competencies for Adults (ICEA) designed by López et al. (2022). To this end, a study was carried out with a quantitative approach, of a basic type and with an instrumental design. The instrument was applied to a sample of 1126 young people aged 18 to 24 years, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Previously, a pilot test was carried out with a representative group of the sample to evaluate the clarity and comprehension of the items. The questionnaire consisted of 23 items, distributed in five dimensions: emotional awareness, autonomy, emotional regulation, social competence and competence for life and well-being. To establish construct validity, a confirmatory factor analysis was carried out, which reported adequate fit indices, although it required the respecification of the model (Model 2) with correlated errors. In this adjustment, CFI and TLI values of 0.95 and RMSEA of 0.056 were reached, all within the established parameters. In addition, acceptable factor loads (≥ 0.60) were found in both models (M1: original and M2: respecified). The reliability of the ICEA was evaluated using the Omega coefficient, obtaining values ≥ 0.70 in the dimensions and 0.92 in the total inventory, which indicates a very acceptable level of reliability. Finally, convergent validity evidenced significant correlations of moderately high level in relation to psychological well-being.
